WOW. Have you seen the Joan Didion film, or read Blue Nights? The untold stories of what women in Hollywood have endured- until NOW we can only hope---positively curls my hair!!!!! the Shelly Duvall piece is beautiful and really well done, I think. Yug Paul Simon- he's a thief. Also, I don't get the Dr. Phil thing and I don't want to know. And yes, I ought to wake up to Judy Chicago! Love you to pieces.

Emma darling, you're a gem and I love your new newsletter.

Firstly, I adore that your initial thought upon waking was "Judy Chicago." It was most definitely a sign from God, and I'm jealous that She inspires you to shop in this expansive, life-affirming manner. Can we go see The Dinner Party installation sometime? (Also, I believe Judy Chicago has officially trademarked, Dinner Party-designed, functional-use dinner party plates, and I think we should both consider investing in them and holding a cocktail party.)

Secondly, HBO is on my list the moment because "The Undoing" was at best a two-hour movie, and spending six hours to tell that lackluster story was a tremendous waste of time, money, and talent. Hopefully Noma Dumezweni will get her own series next time, which would be much more interesting.

Instead of committing hours and hours to a new series (who has the attention span or time?), I recommend watching the excellent 2016 French film "Things to Come" on Hulu, in which the luminous Isabelle Huppert plays a philosophy professor who experiences a series of extreme life changes over the course of a year and finds the strength to move on, all in 102 minutes. It's much more respectful the ticking minutes of our existence (six hours which I will never get back, HBO, God!), and I found it quite inspiring in the new atmosphere of chaos that currently reigns over our world.

Thirdly, Madonna is always the right choice:

You're perfect, never change! I think we need to invest in Judy dinnerware for sure, absolutely, no further questions! Have we discussed The Undoing? You have given the perfect review, fully agree. Wow, cannot wait to watch Things To Come asap.

1. I haven't watched Search Party yet - is it worth it? I just finished the Mandalorian and haven't delved into anything requiring thinking power because my brain has turned to mush from not leaving my bed for 356,759 days. On that note, do you have any good tv recs for mushy brains?

2. That Shelly Duval article was way better than the blurb I read about the same issue in the NY Daily News (I subscribe for the murderers and rapists). It warmed my heart to hear old Hollywood was rallying for her.

3. Very excited about this titillating newsletter as it will serve as my prime source of millennial news (sorry if you hate to hear that but it’s true). I had to google Reply All which thusly led to me finally finding out why Sohla had disappeared from Bon Appetit only to reappear on food52. Shock! Awe!

4. I had a note about how I personally feel about infographics but felt it was off-topic so am withholding but know that I support your grievances.

1. i'm trying to guess who this is, and i can't! reveal yourself! 2. search party is such a good show, it will alter you. it starts out as one thing and ends as a completely different thing -- it's good for mushy brains because it will help shape it up but it's extremely easy to watch. Other mushy brain recommendation include Call My Agent on netflix and High Maintenance on hbo. 3. shelly duvall forever 4. you're welcome for the deep dive, i'm sorry for the pain. 5. i respect your private infographic opinions 🙏

Re: Search Party, what a love hate relationship with that show. I've never been more frustrated by a show in my life and I thought killing her off was actually an interesting choice (because I hate her) but now she's probably not dead. I don't know if I have the emotional bandwidth to continue but I will. Also, I FEEL you on the tick tock.

Agreed! Am i absolutely going to tune in? i'd bet my life on it! jk if 2020 taught me anything, it's don't bet your life on anything! also -- tell me more about your tick tock situation, is this happening to a clock of yours?!

OK here's the twist you didn't see coming, I don't own an analog clock BUT I feel like the tick-tock transcends just clocks. I've felt that way in the past about clocks I've own but currently, I feel like there are other things in my apartment that sometimes are quiet and are other times quite loud.

what a delightful end to my Sunday! Two things: HBO foreign shows -- Gomorrah is supposed to one of the best shows on television (the first two seasons at least, I don't know about this new one.) But apparently its supposed to be a VERY realistic look at the mafia in Naples (Italia not Florida). I hear great things about My Brilliant Friend also. I started to watch this Czech show called Wasteland and it was ok! I wanted to finish but I never did -- it is very Czech (old man + prostitute in the opening scene). The other thing: I feel like infographic instagram posters be trying to just keep us scrolling?? Denigrating strangers on the internet feels like a slippery slope to performative posturing; maybe it comes from a good place but it solves few real life problems and gives a false sense of import to ppl who make influencer-approved pretty posts. If Fauci says its cool to hang post-vaccines, I'd say that's a pretty good litmus test. Well, so long, EW-ers. I feel like I'm on a blog in the early aughts. There's no Mark Zuckerberg, no Jeff Bezos, no Y2K disaster; we're just riding the wave of the dot-com bubble to...who knows..

RE: beatboxing in the 1600s... Are we looking at a new beatbox Shakespeare musical following the success and style of Hamilton?? It's all in meter already! Begging to be beatboxed! I feel that this could be a great success with some fun "diverse casting" inspired by Hamilton — like, they could actually cast women as the female roles! And then we can all pretend that they did that in the 1600s! Pass the Tony! Can't wait for more EW content.

i only learned at age 29 that shakespeare is "the bard" (i think you were there? kelly wilson's zoom theater trivia night where i demanded anyone explain what "hard for the bard" even meant, and everyone said "shakespeare is the bard" and then no one would tell me what a bard IS). i simply can't promise i'd watch a hamilton inspired beatboxing musical of a shakespeare play, BUT i absolutely stan the inspiration at play here, and i look forward to seeing you accept the tony for an all-female Othello hip-hopera! Thank you for your Thoughtful Response!!
